I retain a healthy skepticism about anything that I read and consider the source and how much I know and/or trust them. I don't put faith in the words of politicians because they are trained to parrot positive sound bites and evade uncomfortable facts. I don't go with the notion that mainstream media is fake news, that defies credibility and they are the only agencies with the global reach to get anywhere near the truth on the ground. That said, I realise that they will place their own spin on a given story based on their political influences. I put little to no faith in niche internet "news" websites and YouTube prophets.
In summary, I accept that you cannot truly know anything unless you see it for yourself and even then you can fail to understand what you have seen. So you have to trust somebody sometime and that's a judgement call. My judgement is not perfect but not terrible and there is a method behind it.
