I do not understand the feed

On home feed I see a new post. Under new I see hours or days old. Shouldn't that be the opposite?

Further, I saw a new post on the feed, when I clock on home, or new, it disappeared.

I changed the feed settings to show new and groups I am in...not there.

Maddening. It appears old posts are preferred by the algorithm.

There's a * button to see new posts, you can choose relevant or less relevant after that.
