Why are you hiding your age and or gender?

I don't understand why some people on here are so secretive about their age and gender?

I don't mind revealing my age or sex to anyone but there are others who don't want any pervs messaging them. At least it isn't like back in the late 90s or early 2000s when the pervs and annoying AOL chat room users would ask others "A/S/L?".
