Just because I interact with someone or are friends with them doesn't mean I necessarily want to see every thing they post.

Sometimes I read posts but don't interact with the poster so now I'm afraid to read posts by users I don't interact with much.

There’s a lot of posts that I don’t see even from my friends. I do like to see posts of people that aren’t my friends as well.

It would be much simpler if that was the intent of this new design, that they would just create a 'friends' tab.
