I don't add many people and if anyone adds me but is new or has no posts or comments available for me to read... not adding and will remove the account.
I also don't believe every person is my friend. I reserve real friendship to those who make an effort to be a friend in a real sense
I don't know the deal behind why you were blocked, but tells you you probably weren't seen as a friend in any real sense.

I wait for people to add me too. I still check who they are and how we might or might not be a good match. lol

Also it’s not like those you add to your friends list, message you any more than non adds 🤷‍♂️
