It's basically a tool to convince consumers they are purchasing a product that is environmentally considerate. It's a way to capture those who are environmentally-aware to at least consider and hopefully buy a product that checks-off their sensibility to be environmentally conscious. As "being green" becomes more of a trend, most brands will use it. It encourages wage workers to take the easy way out by letting their selected brand do the "green work" for them with no other effort than buying the product.

Getting paid less does not benefit a minimum-wage-worker, nor are they involved in this unethical marketing trend. Which makes them the victims of such practice.
