A leading medical journal has questioned whether governments’ handling of the COVID-19 pandemic is tantamount to “social murder” – and something which politicians should be held accountable for.

In a highly-charged editorial in the British Medical Journal, executive editor Dr Kamran Abbasi says leaders must be answerable for their failures “by any national and international constitutional means necessary”.

I am surprised someone in his position would come out with hyperbole like that before the Public Inquiry is anywhere near completed and its Report published.

It is emerging that the UK government (I can't speak for others) were out of their depth with it, partly because far too many politicians know so little science and about science even at lay level. Nevertheless I would expect intemperate language from a "red-top" newspaper, not a serious medical journal!
