What is your veiw on parents who smack there kids as disapline was you ever smacked as a kid growing up

My mum believed in smacking me every time I was bad. She’d drag me over to the sofa with me begging her not not punish me but it never worked. She’d smack my poor little bum bright red. I’d scream and cry my eyes out, saying owwww it hurts, please mummy I’m sorrrrry!
It stung so bad but looking back, I definitely deserved it.
