Why do people misuse the word "dude" on SW?

Not for the first time I've had some troll call me "dude" and I've seen it being applied to other women on SW as well. Why, when the Oxford English Dictionary doesn't list it as a gender-neutral word? Why do people use a word like that inappropriately on this site?

@Moodswings yes I know the song , Mott the hople sang it but never realised that's where saying came from , the word dude not used much here in Ireland
