Why do people misuse the word "dude" on SW?

Not for the first time I've had some troll call me "dude" and I've seen it being applied to other women on SW as well. Why, when the Oxford English Dictionary doesn't list it as a gender-neutral word? Why do people use a word like that inappropriately on this site?

dude also implies what you're about to say is important to the conversation or you, or to check someone.
