I was just thinking, im not int eh mood for all this nakedness and sex right now, but don't want to block people either. If I do friend's only its too limiting, but everyone can be overwhelming

How about changing the adult rating in your preferences and leaving the homepage filter on everyone? What you're suggesting has been available from the start.

something like that. or side by side, or different tabs like they have for questions and groups

OK, different tabs could indeed work. Or maybe just changing the filters to select a combination of adult levels instead of a maximum level.

even if some stuff does go on the wrong end once in a while, its not as annoying... I already miss tons of stuff by blocking minors... not that they still fake their age
