Do you engage or ignore trolls?

If you know (or are at least very confident) that someone is trolling you, trying to get a rise out of you, do you respond or do you ignore it?

@Imsleepy I just told a troll he was lonely and miserable and he immediately stopped trolling.

I don't like doing that because it actually makes me feel bad because I'm not a freakin' troll who can just pretend to have no sympathy for people. *sigh*
