Only ever really knew my Mom's father -- he lived with us the last ten or so years of his life. Amazing man -- professor, historian, etc. Even heard a story that Truman approached him once about serving in his cabinet. But he died when I was just 16, too young to fully appreciate just how much he had done and I regret I was too young to take advantage of the opportunities to talk to him about all the things he'd done and places he'd been. Little hints dropped, like the story of him taking my Mom with him to England just prior to WWII and hanging out with Edward R. Murrow, make me wonder just what he might have been able to talk about if I'd only thought to ask.
