Why isn't "Responses To My Comments" the default under notifications?

I really get tired of having to select that each and every time I post a response.
No, I am [u]not[/u] interested in every single response, particularly from those I'd rather see swim with cement shoes.
Out of common courtesy, I [u]would[/u] like to respond to those who respond to me.
