Can a PM be retracted/un-sent?

I logged in and I had "2" PMs (so my inbox said). I clicked on my inbox and I had only 1 new message (no, it wasn't two messages in a row from the same person)... Is it possible that someone sent me a message and then retracted/deleted/un-sent it...?
