Why pm someone you disagree with in order to change their mind about certain issues?
Like if we don't agree with each other, we just don't agree, that's that.

I dunno. I think there is value in discourse and there is value in sharing a contrary viewpoint.
I do think people take it too far at times, particularly with things that are subjective.
On the other hand, there are plenty of people who really haven’t a clue about facts and have beliefs that have no basis in reality. These folks tend to argue their points quite vociferously.
So, while I do not agree with your assessment universally, I do understand your perspective.
