How is this possible?

About 6 years ago the remains of 800 babies and children were found hidden in a septic tank in a disused convent in Tuam, Ireland. For much of the 20th.century the convent had been a Catholic home for illegitimate children; any deaths that were reported were put down to diseases caused by malnutrition. The matter is still under investigation. Under pressure from the Irish PM and others the Pope on his just-ended visit, apologised for past wrongs but apparently knew nothing about this. How is it possible that with a visit pending, neither Vatican advisers nor Irish bishops briefed him on such a crime?

OMG?! 馃槰 I was in a haunted nursing home a few years ago when I broke my ankle on both sides, I had no one that could stay with me so I had to stay there for a month. It also used to be a Catholic home for girls back in the 1800's and I believe I met one of those girls before I left! I wrote a story about it. Yes, how could no one know what happened at that convent in Tuam?!

@Peaches As a child I used play there (I've relatives from the area), and although I was too young to understand, I'me fairly sure I can remember adults referring to dark deeds taking place there. Sometimes one can sense a feeling of evil in a place, as when I visited the wood in Spain where Franco plotted with his fascists. In Catholic Ireland there was a deeply ingrained feeling that it was a mortal sin to question Church authorities. You accepted what you were told and said nothing. I think its the ultimate example of how absolute power corrupts absolutely.
On a different tack, have you ever read P.D. James' ghost stories. There's one that has always haunted me, though I've forgotten some of the details. Might write you "my version" when I get time.

@alan20 No, I've never read it. 馃

@Peaches Okay, my friend. When I get a chance you'll get a version filtered through my imagination. I'm a good story teller; as long as it's beside an open turf fire.

@alan20 That would be nice. 馃槉
