Do you use your photos on Similar Worlds?

@SW-User You can reset your password if you have access to the email address you registered with. Verifying your account is only necessary to regain access to your account if you are or may someday become unable to receive emails from SW.

Completing the second step is also useful if you wish to prove that the person in your photos is you. You must complete the first step to start the second, but if you are confident about maintaining access to your email account and don't share photos of yourself, you don't need to worry about skipping either step.

@Gentle153 im not happy about this. if people want to verify their accounts im fine with letting them (though i think it's gonna force people into groups but oh well, if that's how you want the site to be then go off i guess), but to have to upload a picture simply to get help if my email gets hacked? . anonymous users should be able to recover their accounts as well. this is excluding those of us who aren't interested in verification

@SW-User I kind of agree, but the developers are bound to technical limitations. Just saying an account is yours is not enough. I'm sure you wouldn't want your password to be sent to anyone who claims your account is theirs, so some form of proof is needed.

@Gentle153 other developers aren't bound by those technical limitations tho, so i have a difficult time just accepting that as an answer

@hahaheheuhhaha then they shouldn't have introduced recovery if they can't provide it for everyone imo.

@SW-User Do you know how other developers manage to verify someone's identity? If they give someone claiming to be the owner of an account the benefit of the doubt, that is not something SW would want to follow.

@Gentle153 A lot of sites use things like an alternate email address, phone number, or security questions that can be used if an email address somehow becomes unusable.

@AcidBurn That's true, but would your phone number or your mother's maiden name be less privacy sensitive than a hidden photo? And would you consider it equally safe?

@Gentle153 seeing how recovery is provided by pretty much every other social media, yeah, i'd expect sw to be able to provide it to everyone if you decide to provide it. i can't count how many times i've had to verify my email address with another email address cause some guy in chicago is trying to hack it

also, i've posted my voice on sw. i've posted my handwriting on sw. i've posted a pic of my hand with a scar on it on sw. if you guys wanted to verify my identity, you could easily do it without needing a face pic.

@hahaheheuhhaha i have no idea what you're trying to say im sorry. what exactly is cumbersome? how is security questions (for instance) less feasible than a two step picture program (if this was what you were saying)

@Gentle153 Who said anything about my mother's maiden name? You present a list of questions. Users pick a few to answer and answer them. If they need to recover their account they have to answer those questions. There's absolutely no reason a mother's maiden name has to be involved. There are a lot of sites that offer account recovery without requiring a picture. I don't understand why this site, that claims to offer anonymity, expects people to trade privacy for security.
