Can members create groups?

Can members create groups,either for the wider community or just for selected friends?
I`m a newbie still finding my way about and not sure how groups are created

I think I read that they are thinking about making that feature available, but I can imagine their concern. If anyone can make a group then you get hate groups, multiple groups for one topic or just completely inappropriate groups. I think they transfered the groups over from a different website that is no longer up, called Experienceproject

yeah the concern about hate etc I can see but a basic moderation system would deal with it. I hope they do make the feature available. It seems strange to have a place that markets itself as a free and open place to share experiences,gather strength from others, but then tells you that you can only be within certain groups. It kind of seems to contradict itself
