What does it mean when someone's profile suddenly says they're away?

"<user> is away from Similar Worlds at the moment. Contact with this user may be limited. When <user> returns, this restriction will be removed."

I was talking to this guy and suddenly this appeared. He also changed his name and location. No indication that he had any plans to go anywhere.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. That's kind of what I thought. It's just that the guy was very sympathetic as we share an embarrassing medical condition and it was nice to be able to talk to someone about it.
