What are "Requests?"

I've been on SW for 3 months but have just noticed "Requests." They seem the same as DMs. How do the two differ?

Requests are messages from age or gender that you have blocked

@Barebum61 Between the link Bowen provided and your response, I get the idea that Requests is a sort of penalty box.
