What are "Requests?"

I've been on SW for 3 months but have just noticed "Requests." They seem the same as DMs. How do the two differ?

@gailo You can add an "About Me" box to your profile with more details about yourself or your rules for DMs.

@gailo there is a PM greeting message option. You can put in anything you like.
