Site Etiquette

Hey, some advice please. What is the best way to approach someone on here.
I have had a few people follow me with no previous interaction, and then no further contact - am I supposed to DM them?
I have had a couple of random DMs, which I have to admit it was nice to get a message.

Is there a preferred way, or do you reply on people saying on their profile what they prefer?

There is no etiquette.
There are some people who will add you, when they have never interacted on your posts and will never show up on either posts or DMs.
There are some who will DM you but not add you or get on your posts.

Anyway to cut a long story short, there is no rule and consistency. If you feel like you want to DM someone, do it, be yourself. There are many people who will not respond to DM's though, so don't take it personally either.
