It works pretty much however you want to work it.
One suggestion; don't get too close to people too quickly, or take anything too seriously or personally.
Get to know people first, then spill your heart out in PMs, if you trust them that much. But don't be surprised if people don't mean what they say.
Mostly, just take it easy and have fun.
