I just got here and I've already had someone harass me, flinging insults at me in my inbox and then block me.

What she said doesn't bother me, she's just some silly random after all but what does bother me is that people think that's perfectly fine behavior.

I'll stick around and find out but if it's always like that here, then this place isn't for me.

Some people love the block button, my opinion is the only real reason to block someone is if there is continued confrontation but there's at least a dozen other reasons that people do that are silly. If you're going to be a regular here then eventually you'll find the people that you enjoy interacting with most and stick with them
