Is it OK to describe coronavirus as just corona? Is that common practice?

@SW-User Formerly Chinese. Western countries/people did their best to spread it like wildfire and prolong this agony unnecessarily, when we could've probably been out of it in like a couple of months, if only people had even just half of a functioning brain.
