Take some time and explore your account features, there's a number of ways you can filter and control who can contact you.

Changing anything on your base profile (birthday, sex, name) results in a 'time-out' until you can change it again, and the time grows with each change.

Muting is good to use for people who only post but never respond, that you don't want to see.
