Does feminism work?

Feminism has successfully driven major legal and social changes for gender equality, though opinions remain divided on its modern cultural impact and how well it addresses all groups.

Historical Successes
Legal Rights:
Feminist movements are credited with securing women's right to vote, own property, enter contracts, and access higher education.
Workplace Protections:
Campaigns helped establish anti-discrimination laws and equal pay principles in many Western nations.
Social Shifts:
Public acceptance of traditional gender roles has decreased significantly over the last several decades, with broad consensus supporting equal treatment.

Ongoing Debates and Criticisms
Class and Intersectionality:
Some critics and reports, such as research highlighted by the Institute for Public Policy Research, suggest feminism has historically benefited professional women more than working-class women.
Cultural and Social Impacts:
Critics argue that certain modern cultural shifts associated with the movement have negatively influenced family structures, relationships, and individual well-being. Proponents counter that feminism continues to expose systemic inequalities and advocate for vital social protections.

It's now 2026 and your question is "Does feminism work?". Shame on you, I like to say, because without it you wouldn't even have been able to have asked that question as a woman in the first place. Yes, the formal beginning of organized feminism is widely marked by the Seneca Falls Convention held in July 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York. Yes, the core demands were then equal social, civil, and religious rights, famously adding the controversial call for women's suffrage (the right to vote). So yes, without it you'd be staying in the kitchen. And would return there. Sorry, I don't want to be mean nor insulting. But heck, don't you realize what's changed and what we still need to fight for?
Do you need to fight not to be treated like a doormat? Yes.
