That's simply not true. In the Western World, men and women are paid the same for equal work, it's just that what some might claim is equal work often isn't.

And that means what, exactly? Even if you were respectable enough not to cite that ridiculous 3/4ths-what-men-make mantra (the real figure, when all factors are controlled for, is something between 2-8 cents on the dollar less according to the best research), how does this suggest that science denialism and trust falls are the answer? @Lynda70: Are you referring to the Labour UK party or Australian party? I have to admit my knowledge of the former is lacking. But I believe these are put in place so that the total number of MPs in cabinet (?) is closer to parity with that of their male counterparts?

All-women shorlists are sexist because candidites are selected or excluded on the basis of their sex. It's amusing that, without all-women shortlists, the UK Conservative Party has given us two female Prime Ministers yet, despite their efforts to force women into Parliament, the UK Labour Party has given us none.
