American Visions Episode 5: The Wave from the Atlantic

PBS brought out American Visions in the US and it's never been put on disc since, which is indeed a shame. Nowadays we look a bit different at the issue of migration and even at the word wave in context of the issue. Nevertheless, no-one will ever be able to blot out the fact that American is indeed largely a nation of immigrants. Yes, there are perhaps even still more different and difficult times ahead. When Robert Hughes tells us in this episode that Georgia O'Keefe's notoriety was also because she was a woman, one needs to step back and try to think what he really could have meant. Alright, there's the most obvious explanation for the statement but is that always the most truthful? Concerning thinking, culture, arts, etc. when is a woman only a woman, and a man only a man?
