Which is better? Popularity or Character?

Crazy, I know. Two questions for today...
Even as an adult, I've witnessed both sides of the coin. I guess being a Generation Y, in this Millenial Era, has changed my overall perspective on what truly defines 'adulthood'. This also determines whether or not I will befriend/associate myself with anyone. What's your take?
