Why were guns invented and did the person not mind all the deaths that would come with the invention ?

@TexChik: This is not liberalism I'm just genuinely wondering, trying to understand a thought process and morality of the inventor. And most of all wondering if after seeing what his invention had done did he ever feel guilty or okay with it.
