@Peaceful: the smartest thing I heard in response was Bill Gates (who is a proper genius) straight away said "if you do this, you need to tax them (robots) as if they are people.

There's plenty of stuff that humans don't need to be doing. If we can combine productivity in with this, we can all work less but still be provided for.

@Raymuundo: Haha! I've done a reasonable amount of work with neural nets. They can occasionally pick out some interesting insights that humans couldn't but in terms of having awareness enough and the ability to link things together, nothing scary will happen in our lifetime.
I think a bigger problem is that if we let things run by AI, people will hack the AI for their own ends.
