Is expired flour okay to eat?

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F Best Comment
whole grain flour is apt to go rancid and that is bad for your liver...white flour would not go rancid that way but it might affect flavor if it was out-of-date a long time. If you have frozen it then it can last a lot longer.

@cherokeepatti: it was actually rice flour

Fresh flour is always better.
I wouldn't think flour could expire. May be bugs in it though. I once visited a 100+ yo old man who had saved 100 yo candy (like hard sugar-cubes) from when he was a kid. So it's up to you.
Flour doesn't really expire. It can become infested though. As long as it looks and smells ok, I'd use it.

@AcidBurn: whole grain flours can go rancid
@cherokeepatti: So can white flour. It would be hard to not notice if it had gone rancid.

Unless it's utterly ancient, I wouldn't worry too much. OTOH, if you're baking pastries, quality flour matters.

You should be fine...but how expired are you talking about?
SaintAdelaide · 31-35, F
@Cajunfirefly: four months

Too late I already made pancakes with it, I'm just waiting to die because I ate the pancakes 😊

@Cougarmilf: Rice probably lasts longer than wheat.
