We bash on Muslims who choose to cover their bodies for their religion. So why dont we bash the Amish for doing the same?

So why do we allow Amish women to dress modestly and not Muslim women?
I've seen Muslim women discriminated for wearing their long weird dresses, why though? Dont the Amish do the same?

Amish women are always free to leave the community- and aren't given severe beatings. I suppose this major difference is enough to justify criticism of Islam.

@Peekaboo: I've seen many ex-muslims. If you are right, why arent they dead?
SW-User
@golemn9: Because you're looking at a small picture- not the world. The severity of Muslim atrocity varies by region.

@Peekaboo: So if it varies, is possible that a lot of countries dont give severe beatings to ex-muslims?

@golemn9: I don't know where you're trying to go with this post. Fine- let them dress as they want, but we should still aim to expose Islam.

@golemn9:

Beating women is allowed in the Qur'an and practiced by many muslim families. Of course there are extra teachings made by the scholars such as avoiding the face and the severity of it.

Ex Muslims are protected by secular laws and their own resources, not by Islam. I've had plenty of people threatening my life based on the punishment of apostasy and for speaking against Islam. Plenty of ex-muslims never announce that they left the religion bécause they can't protect themselves and their families.

Equal and human rights in Arab countries espacially are the products of secularism not Islam.

The fact is there is no ideal religion. There are abuses everywhere.
golemn9 · 26-30, M
@Serenitree: exactly.
golemn9 · 26-30, M
@Peekaboo: We should persecute people who do wrong within the boundaries of our country. Why look to condemn people in the Middle East when we have religions doing the same at home?
golemn9 · 26-30, M
@Darkcosmos: Abuse is also permitted in the Bible. But every time I see a Christian beating his wife I don't blame it on his religion. I blame it on the man. It is the society not religion that permits him to beat his wife. They must change their society's standards, not their religion.

Religion that preaches violence needs to change. People are conditionnéd through it just like through an educational curriculum. It shapes your thinking. To say it has no role is simply out of fear and inability to distinguish between prejudice and honest concern.

While I do understand that Christianity has its own flàws, it's also clear to me that Christians became increasingly unreligious compared to muslims in reality.
golemn9 · 26-30, M
@Darkcosmos: Christianity also preaches violence and for one thousand years Christians were incredibly violent. But now they are not. Christianity didn't change, what changed were Western norms and values (genocide, mass murder, ect are no longer okay in the West). Bashing Islam is not going to change them, we must support the changing of Eastern norms and values. That's how we can really have an impact.
Miram · 31-35, F
@golemn9: Nonsense, christianity and the Bible both have been changed over the years.

https://lifehopeandtruth.com/change/the-church/was-christianity-designed-to-evolve/

Of course we need to promote a culture of tolerance but there is no way to do so if religion is taken as an untouchable area of absolute knowledge. If anything,it is contradictory to that same point.
golemn9 · 26-30, M
@Darkcosmos: Religion is used as a front for norms and values.
Ex: Christians used to have many wives, and it was not wrong.
But as soon as the norms and values changed, Christianity changed.
Okay, I agree that Christianity has changed. But in truth, what really changed were the norms and values of the society.
Miram · 31-35, F
It's a source of norms and values too. To dismiss the wrong norms you have to be critical of it i.e criticism.

I can understand apologists' fears of people not being able differentiate between violent teachings and violent followers(generalisations). But the solution is not in silencing constructive criticism. But in criticising both religion, and those who discriminate against its followers
