Why are things—like murder—seen as way worse when women are involved?

For example: If a group of people are murdered, people are more shocked and sad when finding out some were women.

That's obvious. Society views women as fragile and something to be protected so people feel uncomfortable when they're hurt. It's the same with children. Think of the cliche save the women and children before men
