Why do alcoholics have bad teeth?

I'm not asking this in a rude way, I just wanted to know does alcohol cause teeth deteriorate?

anyone who's got an addiction stronger than their drive for food and basic hygiene is going to end up with bad everything - teeth, skin, hair, et al.

I've never heard of alcohol causing tooth decay... Cigarettes, chew, and meth certainly do tho
