How do you spot a catfish online?

I usually take the view that as long as no one asks me for money, I'll chat to them. But you can usually tell sooner or later if they have an ulterior motive or at just playing games.

There is no definite way. Just assume that everyone you meet on line is a persona of some kind, an alternate personality. Then there are no worries.
