I wonder why is it widely believed that ppl end up elsewhere after they die?

It would make more sense if they just believed what they saw like we do with other things in life , so why is this an exception ?

I think it's because we see what happens to people's bodies after their deaths and the most obvious difference is that they (the essence of who they were) is no longer in them. So the eternal question has been, where does that essence or energy go ?

@bijouxbroussard: I guess it is difficult to imagine ' essence ' just stoping and no longer being forever .
