All people are jealous and possessive in varrying degrees and aspects.
When those two traits are negative (sometimes they are positive) they stem from insecurities. An insecure polygamous person will feel the need to control his partner's ambition and how much he expresses his love to others by occupying their time too or any other means.
Jealousy and possessiveness is not only evident in sexual preferences.
