What are the perks of even knowing a second language if you already know the dominate (or official) language of the nation you live in?

I already know a second language because I didn't live in the US my whole life (I know we don't have an official language but English is the most widely spoken language here so). I can only see the need to know multiple languages if you want to travel or you want to be a translator.

It gets you a job easier because you can speak to and assist foreign customers who are not good at english.
@goagainsttheflow: I never get polish customers at work but I got a job easy ._.

@MorbidCynic: yaaay! :3 For me, we get a lot of south American and eastern foreigners so it's very beneficial when an employee is bilingual.
