could be something to this. We hear of trophy-wives, never trophy husbands. And if the likes of Trump and Stephen Hawking (objectively not "hot" men) can pull in attractive women and have affairs, that may tell us something.
Evolution plays a role I think: men tend to be more visual, women are wired to look for traits that will help ensure security of her and their offspring (status, money, etc.) Also - studies show the kinds of man a woman is attracted to changes with her menstrual cycle. She's more responsive to a "hot" man when fertile, but more likely to seek out a more nurturing-type of man when in a non-fertile phase.
