@SanPedro: Actually, this is both ridiculous and incorrect. According to experts, children can get through divorce perfectly well. The thing that screws them up is the fighting. Parents who fight constantly are harming their children far more than they would if they got divorced.

Speaking from personal experience, i can tell you it's often hard work having to deal with so many other people involved in your child's life and having to constantly justify who you are and why you're the sole carer for your children.
And having the feeling that you are constantly being judged by everybody.

@Picklebobble2: As a woman though, we tend to have far more sympathy for single fathers. And btw, I'm sorry that you had to deal with that. I have a great deal of respect for single parents.
