What is "applewood smoked" bacon mean? How is it any different than regular fucking bacon?

Is it actually smoked over apple tree wood chips in a charcoal grill? Or is "applewood smoked" a marketing ploy to make bacon sound healthier?

Yep... just like mesquite or oak or whatever... it is just the smoke that is created from the wood.

@spongemunkey: I can only really taste a difference in mesquite and hickory. You can smell the difference though when it is smoking. My grandfather used to cure/smoke pork in his smokehouse and you can really tell the difference in the smoke filled air. Mesquite burns slow but hot so it adds a lot if flavor. Some other woods like Apple burns aa faster pace and isn't as strong.

I just assumed it would have apple undertones in its flavor. Kinda like maple sausages.
