Why do planes crash eventhough it has a pilot controlling it and why does a train derails eventhough it has a driver?

Planes crash for various reasons. Sometimes they run out of fuel in mid air, sometimes they get struck by lightning, sometimes they crash in fog.

Train derailments are usually caused by excessive speed.

@Bottomschmackenloudenboomer: Planes get struck by lightning? First time I hear that,
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Dan193: Of course they do. Apparently that was what happened to the plane in which Jim Reeves was killed.

@Bottomschmackenloudenboomer: Does it happen often? is it related to turbulence?
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@Dan193: I don't think it happens all that often. It might be related to turbulence, I'm not an expert on such things.
