There is a significant increase in females entering science related careers such as engineering. What is leading to this increase?

my grandfather teaches engineering he says that though most his stdents are still male more women are joining

@Mountainlady16: Yeah, it's gone from like 1 in 100(or greater) to more like 1 in 10. There was usually at least one woman in my programming classes at college(with a couple exceptions, though there was also one class that had 3 so I think it evens out) but my instructors made mention multiple times that when they had been going to school none of them had ever seen a woman taking any such classes.

@UndeadPrivateer: well i also live in the deep south where careers are still some gender specific thogh times are changing i have a friend whose son had a male teacher for 2nd grade

@UndeadPrivateer: very true though we live right outside of a city though id say more of down the middle than actually liberal or conservative that city. our town act touches that city the only thing that seperates us is the state line but yet many people say crossing that state line is like going 20 years back in time maybe longer. like for instance we still in our town live in neighborhoods by race for the most part.
