There is a significant increase in females entering science related careers such as engineering. What is leading to this increase?

Programs encouraging more women to get into it as well as gradual cultural shifts away from discouraging girls from said career paths.

@silmarilion456: None of the female programmers I know were pushed into it, and I know 3 of them well and got to know about a dozen as acquaintances in college. What makes you think they were pushed into it?
