How did you get out of depression?

GlassDog · 41-45, M
It's a long road and you really have to persevere. Depression is the act of stopping fighting and just giving up. I bought plants. If I stopped watering them (because I was down), they started to look dried up and it was a good visual clue to remind me that I was heading in the wrong direction.

In terms of of how to reverse the direction, exercise was key. Trying to be more social, pushing myself into uncomfortable things until they became less uncomfortable.

@GlassDog: How are you now? All Good?
GlassDog · 41-45, M
@sms113: Hmm, it never really goes away. It's like the tide. You have to build up your defences and keep them up. At the moment, yes, okay. Pretty highly functioning.

@SandInMyShoes: I know that. Only people who have anxiety can understand that. For others, it just sounds crazy and weird isn't it?

@sms113: Yep, it's really hard to explain how it feels to people. Same with depression because it sounds so much less difficult than it feels.

@SandInMyShoes: Yup. True. Even your family wont be able to understand this if they haven't got depression once. Its really difficult. They think you are going nuts and crazy and you dont even have words to explain what you are going through :)
