Stop and pick it up and take it to a vet

Adogslife · 61-69, M
Throw a blanket over it so it doesn't get hurt further, then take it to the vet. Once the wing has been set, I walk it over to the dog groomer that's in the same building. She's kinda wacky, so she'd nurse it back to life for sure.
SW-User
@Adogslife: I wish I knew someone like that lol
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
doesn't matter.. animal services and the human society is garbage here. i would not know what to do.

and if i ask for help i'll be ignored... if i call the non-emergency city numbers i'll be re-routed then told to call pest control.

plus i also can't attend to the animal's need and most vets in the area will laugh at me and probably fine me.

been there, done that. i do not want to run into any injured animal.
it's bad enough i have a sparrow issue on my balcony i feel helpless about this time of year.

:/ what a crock, it makes me angry.
SW-User
@sighmeupforthat: I can understand that, same with our vets and animals shelters, they won't help something like a pigeon. It's sad, they're still living beings. They are the human of the bird world. An annoying but innocent pest. I at least hope I guided it away from an even worser death of being run over by a car..
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
Honestly, I'm like Tyson when it comes to pigeons. We have three pigeons that were lost from the racing pigeon circuit.
SW-User
@Jackaloftheazuresand: racing pigeons are awesome, I'd like some but my cats would probably kill them all lol 😭😭
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
We got three males, they hate each other
SW-User
Honestly nothing. I'm not willing to risk catching a disease from a dirty pigeon.
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
@ShoeLace: or getting got by a mini van
SW-User
@Mulder: exactly lol
WeighedDown · 36-40, M
Take it home nurse it back to health then kill and eat it
Fernie · F
I dug a half dead pigeon from the ice...amazingly, she survived. I built a room in the attic for her (couldn't fly) gave her a bath and love every day...she started to lay little pink eggs...I found her a husband...she hated him...I eventually found a guy in the country who took her and gave her a home and she produced many little pigeons there. It was the same year the Berlin wall came down...her name was Olga
SW-User
@Fernie: that's amazing 🙂🙂 thank you for sharing 🙂
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
I would not endanger myself and other people by trying to save an injured bird. If it could be safely dealt with, put it out of its pain. The fact that it can't fly would cause its death fairly quickly anyway.
Fernie · F
@sunrisehawk: That's horrible...all testosterone and no compassion for a living creature you could probably help...selfish human
sunrisehawk · 61-69, M
@Fernie: Calling names always is a great way to start a conversation.. I believe that we have a responsibility in our actions in the world. That means in some cases, you nurture and protect and in other situations you are humane which may require you to end the suffering of an animal.

I've learned that doing the right thing is not always pretty, gentle, or pleasant. I've had to assist quite a few animals including pets as they died. It isn't horrible, just hard. I believe it is far kinder to end pain and suffering in an animal than to just let it linger.

One does make value judgements. An eagle, I'd try to help, but not a pigeon.
Fernie · F
@sunrisehawk: Again....That's horrible...all testosterone and no compassion for a living creature you could probably help...selfish human
cheesyAF · 31-35, M
Stop traffic, pick it up and call the police or fire brigade to take it to the vet.
SW-User
@boringAF: really? 🤔😮
cheesyAF · 31-35, M
@glitterinyourface: At least in Germany. Saving animals is just as important as saving humans.
SW-User
@boringAF: that's amazing, now I feel like a douche for taking the piss.. Fricking British 🙄🙄
AnukBinary · M
My dumbass would instinctually get out and try to catch it.
Fernie · F
@AnukBinary: me too...saved a lot of creatures in my time too...I can't step on a bug...can't snuff out a life...we have no right
SW-User
@Fernie: I can't do that either lmao, I help the bees if they're injured, even though they might sting me lol
Fernie · F
@glitterinyourface: I'm sure glad the 3 of us are out here!!!
SW-User
I would probably not even notice because I would be watching the woman in stretchy pants.

In fact... I probably run over three of these birds a day.
SW-User
@Kindheartedguy: oh no, that's tragic, stop looking at women in stretchy pants and watch for wildlife in the road!!!
I would get out, stop traffic and save it before some damn ass runs it over for fun
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@ECHO22: 🤗
SW-User
@ECHO22: luckily we didn't have to stop traffic but I thought the same, you know some cock would come thrashing through and take it out 😭😭
@glitterinyourface: Yeah, I would have tried
SW-User
I would pick it up and leave some place so that the fucking cats don't eat it
SW-User
@anotherclone: my cat was trying to get it whilst I was trying to save it, was such a drama
SW-User
@glitterinyourface: fucking asshole cats!
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
I would imitate it's hobbling and dance in the street
SW-User
@juiceyangel333: lmao then I'd send for the men in white coats to come and take you away 😂😂
juiceyangel333 · 31-35, F
@glitterinyourface: lol
Wonderful · 31-35, M
Better run over it.
SW-User
@Wonderful: lol
SW-User
@Wonderful: hell to the no
SW-User
put it out of its misery
SW-User
@blackbird: I can see your point but I'd rather try and help him to somewhere he might survive, that might be selfish on my part, but meh, that's all I do
Drdirt · 26-30, F
Well Pigeons in the United States are very invasive and detrimental. Plus they have a high mortality rate in the wild, it'd probably die if you set it free again. So I'd leave it there.
SW-User
Most likely nothing because I'd be scared to even touch it
Fernie · F
@HijabbaDabbaDoo: What do you think it will do? It has no teeth
SW-User
@HijabbaDabbaDoo: lol I did scream a bit, but the neighbour came over to control its wings and me and the pigeon took a little walk to the woods 🙂
SW-User
@Fernie: that's besides the point, I couldn't even touch a pigeon while it was alive. If i could get someone else to help it then sure
I would try to help because if I left it like that I would worrry for days
I would get out and pick him up and take him to a vets
I don't know, I've taken care of blue tits and robins and hedgehogs but a pigeon is a bit like a flying rat
Fernie · F
@Babylon: that is so ridiculous
SW-User
@Babylon: I dunno, I still see them as living things. I helped it all the same, as well as half the woman in the neighbourhood lol
