Start at a community college. No point paying $10,000 in tuition for English 101 and remedial math. Don't get a useless degree. Don't blow $200,000k on a degree that'll earn $35,000 a year. Look for every scholarship and grant on the planet. Go to a school that has an expanding department for whatever you're studying, they'll usually have block grants for that department that can be passed on to students. Finally, if you don't know what you want to do career wise, don't go to college. You'll just be wasting time and cash. There's nothing wrong with waiting, or even skipping college.

@Sicarium: gosh I hope no one ever has paid 200,000 for college. I'm finished with school though in December.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@Nonexistent: It can happen. Pretty easy once you throw in master's and doctorate's degrees.
iamnikki · 31-35, F
Yes, avoid it by NOT accepting loans. People think just because they are offered loans that they must accept. Its an OFFER, not a mandate.

I am the executor my aunt's estate. She died last week. Her will requests setting up a scholarship at the local college but from what I can tell when they did that for my uncle who died in '82 only a couple kids got a thousand bucks and the rest went poof. So I'm planning to first help those that I know who have college debt and are willing to accept help or that I am a cosigner for. I have nine candidates. Just waiting for the death certificates.
